Fic Masterlist )

10/7/08 07:48 pm - Comfort food

Steak and shrimp last night for dinner = win. We also got chicken rolls for an appetizer and now I want to see if I can duplicate the recipe. So far I've got ground chicken, cilantro, and wonton wrappers, and I think refried beans, but am not entirely sure. Now I just need to convince hubby to let me experiment, since we don't usually buy ground chicken or wonton wrappers, lol.

We had beef stew for dinner tonight, since it was cloudy and a bit nippy today. The sweetgum trees in our front yard are starting to turn. I hate the prickle balls they drop every year, but they have the most beautiful fall foliage. One turns more yellow and orange, while the other turns more red and purple.

We still can't find our Halloween lights. I am bummed.

I also need to make more applesauce muffins.

10/1/08 07:07 pm - Mid week ramblings

Happy Birthday, [info]clare_dragonfly! I hope your day was a fantastic one!

[info]anise, I got your card and pressie today! Eeeeeee!!!!!!! Thank you so much! I am still bouncy with glee.

We've been trying to wean Bean from her binky addiction. She'd been doing pretty well the past three days...and then today she found one of the ones we'd lost, so we're basically back to square one. We've currently arranged for it to be "lost" again, and hoping for the best. Once she's binky free, I think it'll be time to tackle potty-training in earnest. Anyone on the f-list got any tips for me?

9/30/08 09:51 am - Fall is here

Thanks to everyone who wished me a happy birthday as well, both in posts and in comments. They were all greatly appreciated. I even received a couple of giftfics!

[info]softly_sweetly wrote Gingerbread, Neville/Ginny, PG, and [info]chrysantza wrote this sweet little Neville-centric comment drabble!

[info]complications_g also offered to do a Neville-centered layout for my LJ, wheee!

Hubby had to work on my actual birthday, so we didn't go out for dinner until last night. We had seafood, and then afterward we went to the Halloween store to look at stuff. We bought a cute little witch costume for Bean, so she's set for Halloween. I'm still trying to teach her to say 'trick or treat' for the big night. There's also a Halloween parade on the Square on the 25th, and we'll most likely go to that as well.

It was cold when we got up this morning! I'm thinking about changing into a longer-sleeved shirt.

I'm going to make applesauce muffins today. I think I have juuuust enough brown sugar to do it.

9/27/08 07:54 pm - The cars on the track go round and round...

R.I.P. Paul Newman. You will be missed not only for your acting, but for your philanthropy.

Dad G. spent today and will spend tomorrow at the Kansas Speedway watching the races. His brother-in-law was already going, but someone in his group backed out and he called Dad G. and asked if he wanted to go. Dad G., who absolutely loves NASCAR, said hell yes, so therefore he's spending his weekend drinking overpriced beer and watching cars go round in circles really really fast.

It took a couple of days, but I finally added something else to the birthday wish list: a pastry blender. Other kitchen gadgets would be nice, but I'd have an easier time making scones with a pastry blender. Speaking of which, I was in the mood to bake today, and we're out of unsalted butter and applesauce. Fneh.

Too bad I can't ask my family for porny fanfic for my birthday. Something cheerful and fluffy and filthy to take my mind off the facts that I'm turning 40. And on the rag. Eep.

9/26/08 10:32 pm - Friday

Happy Birthday to [info]knic26!!! Hope your day was absolutely perfect!

I watched the first presidential debate tonight. So far, I haven't heard anything to sway me. I'm rather looking forward to the VP debate, to be honest, if only to witness the incredible lopsidedness sure to ensue.

9/25/08 01:01 pm - It's all in the interpretation

Hmmmm, so Melissa Anelli is publishing a book this fall, and there's an interview with JKR that didn't make the cut.

MA: Dan sort of does get to go beyond the veil.

JKR: Yeah, he does, but not literally through the veil

MA: Not charging through. Ginny, Ginny can hear it because she's been,

JKR: I think women are more likely to hear than men. [Ginny and Harry] really are soulmates. I think she's like Harry. She's got an intellectual curiosity and she's got something of belief. Hermione [is] totally rational. "Let's all back away from the Veil and let's pretend we heard nothing."

So...Harry didn't really die, which means there's still a piece of Voldemort's soul still around, which means the reason why all is well 19 years later is because Voldemort took over Harry and he's the new Dark Lord, who happens to be married to the girl he possessed so many years ago.

Okay, I think I get the 'soulmate' connection now...

*evil giggle*

9/25/08 12:41 am

Heh, the actor who is my Neville PB in the RPG I'm in has apparently been cast in Gossip Girl. *points to icon* This show already has our Theo!PB and our Adrian!PB.

Does this mean I need to start watching?

9/23/08 08:31 pm - Lunchtime fun

I had lunch with the lovely and wonderful [info]abovethestars this afternoon. We went to Olive Garden, where we were served by a friendly and a somewhat overly garrulous waitress. During lunch we talked about Harry/Ron, Drarry, Snarry, the awesomeness that is Neville, gay rights, the election, the Quidditch Pitch, and lots of other stuff. I told her about my [info]hp_darkfest plotbunny and we talked about some of the plotholes Deathly Hallows had. I think our somewhat overly garrulous waitress was wondering if we were ever going to leave!

We so need to do this again soon!

Bean is starting to repeat letters of the alphabet from the kids shows she watches in the morning, and she did it again tonight while "Wheel of Fortune" was on. Now, if I could only get her to follow directions all the time, rather than when she wants to...yeah, right.

Hubby asked the dreaded "What do you want for your birthday" question tonight. Other than new socks and S2 of Torchwood on DVD, I can't think of anything!

9/22/08 06:14 pm - Oh, the places my mind goes!

Het mpreg.

Your thoughts, please.

9/17/08 07:42 pm - In which Bry squees. Loudly.

Not Good-bye

9/10/08 12:36 am - Eeeee!!!!

I am full of squee at the moment. I'll explain why in a few days, once the envelope arrives.

Also, I, um, may be writing Neville/Snape again, drabblish length. Blame [info]snapelike.

9/8/08 01:20 pm - meme

Meme gacked from [info]ozma_katiebell and [info]emiime...

1) Go to my fic journal and pick out a line or two from one of my stories. (A full line--no sentence fragments, speech tags, etc.)
2) I will respond with which story of mine I think it's from.
3) A drabble of your choice to whoever can stump me.

Oooh, and a judge ruled against SVA and RDR books against publishing the Lexicon.

9/6/08 02:01 am - Oh dear

Matt Lewis admitted to reading Neville/Draco slash at Dragon*Con.

Now I can't help but wonder which one! There are some good ones, and some really bad ones out there!

9/2/08 08:01 pm - 25 First Lines Meme

Seen all around the flist, and I finally have time to do it too! Come witness the boredom.

Post the first lines from each of your 25 most recent fanfic pieces and try to find a pattern.

25 First Lines )

Patterns I've noticed: I have a lot of stories that begin with dialogue, Percy waits a lot, Harry/Neville always live together in cozy little houses, and there are two stories in less than a year that begin with notes leading to kinky doings.

9/2/08 05:27 pm - My weekend

I thoroughly enjoyed my Labor Day Weekend, even if it wasn't spent at Dragon*Con getting to meet Matt and/or Anthony Lewis as more and more of my American flisters seem to be doing. Why, no, I'm not jealous...really...

Friday my friend J. flew in from New Mexico. She dropped by Friday night, bringing gifts for Bean. There were lots of cute new clothes and a giggling Elmo toy and a pair of pink plastic sunglasses with cat's eye frames. I need to get pics of her wearing them. We spent a couple of hours chatting and catching up and watching Bean play with her new things.

Saturday I went to [info]mijan and [info]fiona_fawkes bachelorette party. The party was sorta kinda pirate themed, and we were called the pirate table the entire time we were at the Greek restaurant we went to for dinner. Our waiter was Greek and insanely hot, almost too pretty for words. I was at the end of the table along with the sweet and extremely wonderful [info]abovethestars, who ships Harry/Ron and is absolutely lovely, and we had a prime view when he and another waiter performed a traditional Greek dance for the patrons. Yum, and yum, and yum again. The gyros and ouzo were pretty tasty, as well. And there was belly dancing later. It was after ten by the time we left the restaurant, where we drove to another friends house, had lots of alcohol and did unspeakable things to a poor pinata. I finally got home around 2am, once the alcohol had metabolized enough for me to drive. Yay for pacing drinks!

Sunday J. and I went to Santa-Cali-Gon, our local annual street festival celebrating the fact that Independence was the start of the Santa Fe, California, and Oregon Trails back in pioneer times. There are street vendors selling food and crafts, and eight huge crafts tents from artisans that come from all over the country. There's also a carnival. I brought money, but nothing really caught my fancy this year, so I didn't buy anything.

Monday was a day of rest, lol. If you can call chasing a toddler, catching up on RP tags and posting the newsletter a day of rest.

8/27/08 01:28 pm - The Self-Pimp Meme

Because fanfic authors seem to enjoy being stressed out talking about their own work. We are a masochistic lot, yo.

Cut for navel-gazing, dithering, and self-deprecation )
